Reverse a wrong M-PESA
DIY in minutes — no need to queue at care.
Eligibility (P2P send-money)
- Only the sender or recipient can request reversal.
- Request usually within 24 hours of the transaction.
- Safaricom-to-Safaricom (P2P) sends. Lipa na M-PESA flows differ.
- Maximum 3 attempts per transaction.
SMS to 456
- Forward the full original M-PESA SMS to 456 (don't edit it).
- You'll get feedback on whether it's accepted and the timing.
- Watch for messages from sender header "Reversal".
M-PESA app
- Find the recent transaction in your statement.
- Tap Reverse transaction and pick a reason.
- Updates arrive by SMS — engagement with the other party can take up to ~2 hours.
Zuri on WhatsApp
- Save 0722 000100, message "Hi Zuri".
- Choose M-PESA Help and Reversal.
- Paste the M-PESA code or full SMS, authenticate with your PIN when prompted.
Watch out for fake reversal scams
Safaricom care will never tell you to visit an agent to "complete a reversal", and will never ask for your M-PESA PIN. Forward suspicious numbers to 333.
