When you send money, the recipient's name appears on screen. Always check the name, number and amount match before you press Send.
Send via the M-PESA app
- Open the M-PESA app and tap Send Money.
- Choose a contact or enter the M-PESA number.
- Enter the amount, confirm the recipient on the Hakikisha screen.
- Enter your M-PESA PIN to authorise.
- Save the confirmation SMS — you'll need it if you ever request a reversal.
Send via USSD (*334#)
- Dial *334#.
- Choose Send Money.
- Enter the recipient's number, amount, and your PIN.
Tuma Popote — send to non-M-PESA numbers
Need to send to someone on Airtel or Telkom? Use Tuma Popote (M-PESA app → Send Money → Tuma Popote). They'll receive an SMS with a code to collect via their mobile-money line.
